Some people’s favourite day of the year is Christmas or Easter but here at CULTIVE, our favourite day is the 8th March, International Women’s day!!
International Women’s Day (IWD) first occurred in 1911 and is now supported by over one million people around the world. Today, IWD prides itself on belonging to all groups collectively everywhere, with countries, organisations and individuals all celebrating differently but with a shared vision.
Each year International Women’s Day has a core theme, to bring awareness of a particular gender equality problem that affects women worldwide. The 2019 theme is #BetterForBalance.
As stated on the IWD website “Balance is not a women’s issue, it’s a business issue. The race is on for the gender-balanced boardroom, a gender-balanced government, gender-balanced media coverage, a gender-balance of employees, more gender-balance in wealth, gender-balanced sports coverage …”
Cultive, as a proud feminist brand, is doing our part on fighting the good fight and has created a bespoke tee for International Women’s day and donating 100% of the profits to the charity.
And we are not stopping there, our pledge is to hold 6 female-focused campaigns in 2019 ranging from LGBTQIA rights, female health and equality in the workplace. All of the profits of each campaign will go towards charity ensuring that these causes progress.
The charity we have selected for our IWD campaign is Code to Inspire (CTI) is the first coding academy for girls in Herat, Afghanistan. Founded by Fereshteh Forough in 2015, CTI has given more than 150 female students the skills and confidence to code, build apps, and generate work opportunities for themselves. CTI believes in giving these young tech entrepreneurs the latest skills including classes in Web Development, Game Development, Mobile Application Development and Graphic Design.
